A lot of reading that can be overwhelming amongst other classes. Lectures were super interesting and engaging, but the amount of weekly work you have and your grades largely depend on your TA. The essays were marked quite strict. The marking scheme consisted of 2 essays, tutorial participation (including weekly tutorial quizzes/assignments depending on your TA) and a final exam consisting of multiple choice and long answer. Not an easy elective but interesting if you’re passionate about English.

Super interesting course that brings up a lot of important issues and topics. That being said, this course requires a lot of time dedicated to reading the books, and is not a course that you can avoid doing the readings. Marking consisted of two essays, which were marked quite strictly, tutorial assignments (differed between TAs and were generally quite easy) and a final exam that had multiple choice and essay style questions. Would not recommend as an easy elective, but it is interesting if you are wanting to take an English course.
