LIFESCI 3LA3: Introduction to Data Science
This course will introduce basic concepts of how we use data in science. Students interested in research need to take information they gather or generate from a lab bench, field site, or other source and translate that into meaningful inferences about the processes they are studying. This course will enable students to take complex datasets and distill them into meaningful information from which they can draw reasoned conclusions. The course will include data creation, curation, manipulation, visualization, and analysis. The course will emphasize examples from life sciences, although the principles apply to many different disciplines.

Natural hazards and disasters affect every society on earth on an on-going basis. We will be examining the physical and social causes of these disasters as well as their consequences for society and the environment. Some of the topics covered include volcanoes, earthquakes, flooding, wildfires and slope failure.

HTHSCI 4II3: Advanced Topics in Immunology
This course will build on the fundamental concepts presented in Introductory Immunology (HTHSCI 3I03) but will focus on how immunology is put into practice in the context of human health and disease. Lecturers will describe their fields as well as touch oncurrent research. The course is divided into four thematic modules; (i) Immunology Across the Lifespan (ii) Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology (iii) Immune-Related Diseases and (iv) Cancer Immunotherapy. Topics in each module will be related to that theme and will cover basic, clinical and translational aspects of that topic.

CMTYENGA 2MC3: Design and Creation of Engaged Learning for Community Youth
McMaster Children and Youth University (MCYU) creates and delivers inquiry-based learning activities for youth aged 7 to14 and their families in all areas of STEAM. In this introductory course, you will learn the best practices for pedagogical design, the principles of community engagement, and the art of knowledge translation and communication. In small groups, you will create an interactive workshop or a short electronic book chapter that may become part of the MCYU collection.

Russian 1Z03: Beginner’s Russian I
This course is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Russian. Students will learn the Cyrillic alphabet, some basic rules of pronunciation, and the essentials of Russian grammar. This course will primarily focus on developing simple conversational skills, as well as talking about grammar and vocabulary. [3 units]
